Getting to know CFGC

We wanted to create this Blog so that people can get to know us a little better and follow the happenings of Child & Family Guidance Center. We want the community to know who we are and understand what we do.

Our mission is "To provide quality, accessible mental health services to strengthen children, families and communities." We were established in 1896, making us the oldest child guidance center in Texas, second oldest in the nation! We are a registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation serving over 12,000 individuals a year, at least 5,000 of those are children. We have been partnering with the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas since 1924.

We envision a future in which all children and families have access to mental health resources needed to grow into healthy, contributing members of society. Our goal is to equip children, adults and families with the skills and resources needed to reduce the effects of mental illness, child abuse and neglect, family violence, and high-risk behaviors.

We provide Mental Health Services, Family & Community Education Programs, and a School-Based Intervention and Prevention Program for High-Risk Youth called Safety Net. We have Board Certified Psychiatrists, Licensed Counselors and trained professionals committed to seeing positive change in the lives of the individuals we serve.
